About me

I’m Dr Laura Tinsley, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist working in North London and online. I provide thoughtful, evidence-based therapy for adults navigating anxiety, low mood, trauma, loss, relationship difficulties, addiction and the stresses of work and life transitions.

My training includes a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, MSc in Health Psychology, and BSc (Hons) in Psychology. I’m HCPC-registered and a Chartered Psychologist (BPS), practising in line with BPS and HCPC ethics.

I’ve worked in NHS Homelss Services and NHS Talking Therapies with people from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Earlier, I spent eight years in the homelessness sector; that experience shaped my commitment to compassionate, practical care and led to doctoral research on CBT for alcohol use problems.

My Therapeutic Approach

Every client is unique and requires different things from therapy. Therefore, my therapeutic practice is tailored to meet your needs, creating a unique relationship and therapeutic experience.

At the heart of my practice, I prioritise building a warm, trusting and non-judgemental relationship as a strong foundation for you to feel safe to explore your most difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences.

In tailoring my work to your needs, I draw on a range of theories, techniques and evidence-based practice. I have training and experience in humanistic, existential, cognitive behavioural (CBT), compassion-focused (CFT) and psychodynamic approaches. Whichever approach we take, it is important for therapy to be useful and helpful to you.
